. Despite the comparatively strong recognition of different types of r
ights in the Andean countries\, business activities such as extractive
industries and large-scale agriculture have often caused significant
socio-environmental harm on the ground.  These impacts include defore
station\, loss of access to water and land\, displacement of local com
munities and family farmers\, and health risks due to pesticide use. A
dditionally\, workers’ rights remain insufficiently protected. In th
is workshop\, we will analyze and discuss the different social and env
ironmental impacts of business activities in the Andean countries\, wi
thin the context of our global (political) economy. Moreover\, we will
shed light on different domestic and transnational governance instrum
ents that aim to assess and address adverse impacts caused or contribu
ted to by companies and analyze how they unfold in concrete domestic a
nd local contexts\, shaped by different actors and power constellation
 s. Finally\, we aim to identify new strategies and initiatives that mi
ght contribute to a transformation of human rights and environmental p
roblems associated with businesses\, for instance by developing more r
esponsible business models\, creating new alliances between actors and
social movements struggling for socio-environmental justice or by enh
ancing corporate accountability. For more information about the worksh
