Human Rights Colloquium: Dr Andrew Chubb on Transnational Repression

Organized by the FAU Research Center for Human Rights Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU CHREN), our inter- and transdisciplinary Human Rights Colloquium brings together scholars and practitioners  to discuss pressing issues in human rights research and practice. Events are invitation-only and organized on a rolling basis.  On 11 June 2025, Senior Lecturer at Lancaster University, Dr Andrew Chubb spoke on the topic of “The UK’s Inquiry into Transnational Repression: Scope, Evidence, and Proposed Responses.”

Event recap

Dr. Chubb’s talk focused on the implications of the UK parliament’s 2024 inquiry for the human rights of individuals living in the UK who are affected by transnational repression perpetrated by a range of different origin states. Drawing on a nuanced analysis, Dr. Chubb highlighted the inquiry’s gaps and weaknesses and offered perspectives on what more effective human rights protection could look like in the context of transnational repression.
