Short Bio

Melina Riemer is a research assistant and PhD candidate with Prof. Dr Grażyna Baranowska, Chair for Migration Law and Human Rights. She studied law at the University of Münster and the University of Aalborg (Denmark) with a spezialisation in public and private international law and also completed a legal foreign language training in common law. She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Public International Law with a specialisation in Human Rights from the University of Utrecht (Netherlands). From spring 2023 to 2025, she was a legal trainee at the High Court of Berlin (Kammergericht Berlin) and worked in a law firm specialised in migration law as well as for the Border Justice team of the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR).

Her research focuses on European and international migration law, European human rights protection, especially in the context of border regimes and the European external borders, critical legal theory, as well as interdisciplinary approaches in critical migration and border studies.
