On October 6, various stakeholders from the city of Erlangen signed the “Erlangen Declaration for Diversity, Respect, and Tolerance,” including representatives from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. We are proud that FAU CHREN was able to contribute to this important initiative — represented by Dr. Janina Heaphy, together with Prof. Dr. Petra Bendel and Prof. Dr. Eva Pils who contributed to this document.
The “Erlangen Declaration for Diversity, Respect, and Tolerance” brings together academia, civil society, and the city administration in a joint commitment to equality, dignity, and mutual respect. The declaration stands as a strong reminder that academic engagement can play a key role in promoting human rights, democratic values, and social responsibility at the local level.
“As a cosmopolitan university and part of Erlangen’s society, the joint values of the Declaration of Diversity, Respect, and Tolerance are particularly important to FAU,” says Prof. Andreas Hirsch. “We educate the diverse managers and innovative minds of tomorrow and carry the values of the Erlangen Declaration for Diversity into society and beyond. Furthermore, as a place of education and exchange, FAU opens its doors to society and the partners of the Declaration in various formats and events. It brings the latest scientific findings together with lifelong learning and a lively culture of discussion. In this way, FAU strengthens the joint values of diversity, respect and tolerance and promotes democracy.”
