New edited volume co-edited by Prof. Dr. Grażyna Baranowska

The edited volume Enforced Disappearances: On Universal Responses to a Worldwide Phenomenon (Cambridge University Press, 2025) has recently been published, addressing enforced disappearances as a global human rights issue. To mark the publication, a public online book presentation will take place on 10 February 2026, hosted by the Hertie School Centre for Fundamental Rights.

Professor Dr Baranowska, Chair of Migration Law and Human Rights is a co-editor of the volume. The book also includes contributions by Dr Rainer Huhle, Nürnberger Menschenrechtszentrum (Nuremberg Human Rights Center) and Dr Lene Guercke, Change! Fellow and Research Group Leader at the Chair of Human Rights Politics.

Bringing together academic and practitioner perspectives, the volume discusses issues such as accountability and reparations, the rights of families, the role of non-state actors, and migration-related dimensions, complemented by regional case studies from different world regions.

Book presentation

The online book presentation offers an opportunity to engage with the publication’s key themes and to discuss the research with the editors and contributing authors. The event will welcome the book’s co-editors, professor Dr Grażyna Baranowska and Dr Milica Kolaković-Bojović, along with contributors Dr Gabriella Citroni, Dr Lene Guercke, Barbara Lochbihler, Eva Nudd, Dr Jasminka Džumhur, and Ivan Jovanović.
