Prof. Dr. Sören Torrau

Prof. Dr Sören Torrau has held the Chair of Political Science and its Didactics at the Karlsruhe University of Education since 2025.

Prior to this, he was a junior professor of the didactics of social studies / politics and society at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (2020–2025) and served as acting professor of political education and the didactics of the social sciences at the University of Augsburg (2021–2022). Whilst working as a research assistant in the Department of Didactics of the Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg (2014–2018), he worked as a part-time teacher at a local school in Hamburg at lower and upper secondary levels (2013–2018). In 2020, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Hamburg (summa cum laude). He completed his pre-service teacher training in social sciences and German in Hamburg to qualify as a teacher at grammar schools, having previously graduated with a degree in social sciences and German, specialising in teaching at grammar schools.
